When entering the Gwinnett County Jail system, you can save yourself a lot of trouble by planning ahead. Going to jail is a pretty stressful process for anyone. This guide will give you tips and some basic information on what you can do to expedite the process.

Attorney:
Having an attorney lined up in advance is crucial to making sure you don't have an extended stay at the Gwinnett County Jail. The court will appoint you a public defender free of charge. However, a lot of the time these court-appointed attorneys are buried in case files and don't have your best interest in mind. If you are not facing a serious charge they will usually get you to take a deal so they can process you through the system faster. Even if you receive no jail you can end up with lengthy probation sentences. This may not matter much to you now, but two years later when you are incarcerated again it could mean prison time. Hiring an attorney to represent you can be costly but when dealing with your freedom it is worth every penny. You can do a local search online and bring up a list of attorneys in the Gwinnett County area. Make sure that the lawyer specializes in criminal justices and is familiar with the Gwinnett County Jail.

Bail Bond:
Just like above with the attorney, you can setup a bail bond service in advance. There are many to choose from. The business phone book will have a lot of entries. Another place to check is online. Finally, you can drive down to the Gwinnett County Jail itself and see plenty of them with the numbers posted outside the doors. If you have the time you can stop in and talk to them in person. If you go down the online/phone book route, be sure to ask them about the whole process and to give you a quick rundown. When you are in jail, the most important thing to tell them is your full name, the jail you are incarcerated in and how much your bail has  been set at. Your attorney can also help you reach them.

Now that you have a better understanding of the system and what is involved you can plan in advance, start calling around and get your plan together. This will make all the difference when you are incarcerated.
